From Business Electricity Texas providers to your home energy company, everyone on the top tier does their part to be environmentally responsible here in Texas. If you’re looking for a few ways you and your family can give back take some advice from us:
Plant a Garden: Even if it’s just a few herbs or vegetables it’s great for the soil and the air quality and it’s something to get you eating healthier and feeling better about yourself. Families, this is a good option for the kids to get involved in, too.
Unplug Appliances: Take the time to unplug all your appliances before you leave the house, or at least the ones you don’t use regularly. Some usual suspects are the toaster and unused TVs – they’re sucking energy even when they’re not on and that’s costing you money!
Compost: Make sure your trash is being recycled if it cando it yourself! Start a compost pile in your backyard and use it to fertilize your new garden, too! It’s a great way to feel good about throwing food waste away.

There are simple and easy ways to live green. For those of you who do not know what “green” is, it is where you use energy safe ways to give back to the environment and help maintain our resources. There are several ways in which you can give back to the environment just by simply living your life. You do not need special steps that get in the way of your life to try to make a difference. If every person does at least one thing to keep the environment up, that is a lot when it all adds up. There are recycling bins all over. You can walk down the street and find one, pretty much. Just dropping your empty soda can or bottle into a recycling bin is all you need to do every once in a while or purchasing a dollar tote bag instead of having your groceries bagged in plastic that will take thousands of years to biodegrade and many more to recover from the damage the toxins cause from the damage caused to the environment. Helping the environment in small easy ways can make a difference if it is all added up together. Every person making a small difference adds up to a big difference.

There is little nowadays that can not be recycled. Most districts have places where you can recycle glass, tin, paper, cardboard, plastic and other household waste. But just about everything can have a second, or even third or fourth, life.

Kitchen scraps can be turned into compost and feed your garden for a fraction of commercial products. Old clothes and unwanted toys can easily be taken to resale and goodwill stores to find use in someone’s home. Your cell phone is in much demand, either to be given to others less well off, or recycled for the valuable metals contained within.

Whatever you are about to throw in the trash, think about how it may be reused. Can a local non-profit use that fridge to help someone setting up a home for a first time? Can the half empty paint tins you no longer need be used at a local school for their art department? Recycling is a state of mind easy enough to cultivate.

Don’t simply cram your bins full, without first considering what you are throwing away. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure, something you witness each spring, when garage sales recycle supposed junk, all over the neighborhoods of America!

Be environmentally friendly and still be cool by following a few tips for your home, style and life choices. If you live in an area where the summer can become warm, but want to save energy cost and keep a green home, there are several ways to take advantage of green cooling. Begin by taking a survey of your home and the rooms you spend the most time in. You want to remove as much junk as possible from the room. Do not over stuff a room with too many things. Minimal dcor provides for more air movement and a better mental health space. Plant trees near the window that receive summer sun. This will provide shade and cooler air during the hot portions of the day.

Open the shaded windows and set a small fan in front of them to circulate fresh air from outside. If the air outside too hot then open all window for cross ventilation. If you want to use a fan to cool a room then choose a low energy fan and place a cool, wet cloth in the back so it pulls cool, moist air into the blade for cooling. Wear cotton clothes and choose a cool style. Short, dresses, cool shirt, tee shirts are all good choices. Keep a spray bottle near and sit in front of the fan. When you get too warm, spray your face and the front of your clothing to cool down. This is one of the best ways to keep cool. Avoid using the oven and use the microwave. Eat cool meals. Keep plenty of cool water to drink and relax.

Being environmentally friendly is something that can easily be done by anyone. There are many simple things that can be done in one’s daily life to live the green way. It does not necessarily take an entire shift in the way one does things, but with simple changes it is easy to become more environmentally conscious.

In the home, replacing incandescent lights with compact fluorescent bulbs will save energy and money. These bulbs burn much longer than traditional ones. By turning the water heater down simply by a degree or two, energy can also be saved. Carpooling to work, recycling and something as simple as running the dishwasher when it is completely full will all help to save the earth.

It is not just an individual thing. By encouraging other members of the family to be involved, the impact can be that much greater. Children are especially willing to help out with various environmental projects. Recycling at home is a big one that can be worked on with young children.

By starting small and doing simple things at home, anyone can easily become more environmentally friendly. By doing a few things and getting others to pitch in, the earth can be protected for future generations to come.
